Tale of Veils

An aid to my beauty, a shield to my shame, dupatta is a piece of cloth dipped in the roots of my culture and connects me to it. Its rather a traditional tale than a fashion statement. It is ubiquitous, it knows no hierarchy, a girl or woman, old or young it gathers them all in its beauty and praise. A symbol of modesty, it’s a piece of cloth 2.5 m long and 35 inches wide, has roots in Indus valley civilization. It is a combination of two words “du” meaning “two” and “patta” meaning “strip of cloth”. Its variety of fabric and techniques to make it are endless. Sometimes from the harsh and barren desert have come the most intricate and colorful Bandhni dupatta and sometimes an original Sanganeri or Mughal kalamkari will steal your heart. Dipped in our roots printed with the hands of traditions, it’s an Odhni, or Chunri or Dushala whatever you call it, it’s a women’s best friend. Its different for different occasions, and different for different regions, it can be the ye
